3 ideas: lacking discipline, space for subconscious, self-help lie

Sup – Janis here!
Another issue of the Ideas. A newsletter where I share ideas for creative entrepreneurs. Let’s dive in.
3 ideas in 1min 28 secs.
Where do I feel I lack discipline but never take time to manage the environment?
It's a good question. Here's how it applied to my own life.
Writing for me comes hard. I fall for distractions on my laptop all the time.
So, I got a little keyboard for my iPad. It's perfect for writing.
I don't have email or any social media apps on here. Only my notes app.
I either write or stare at my screen. Opting in for distractions has too much friction, so I don't do it.
Problem solved.

Give space to your subconscious mind.
Your subconscious mind is making connections 24h a day.
It excels when your conscious mind is not fully activated.
For example: when you sleep, walk in silence, take a shower, or do other activities where your conscious mind can relax.
That's when ideas and breakthrough connections will come to you.
Make space for it.

Common lie about self-development.
I often hear phrases like, "if you don't take action on what you learn, it's pointless."
I think it's bullshit.
From late 2016 to 2020, I binged around 130 self-development books and hours of Tim Ferriss Show podcast episodes.
I took direct action, maybe on 0.5% of the advice I heard.
But the real change happened with my beliefs.

Hearing stories, struggles, and behind-the-scenes from various people who did dope shit stretched my thinking of what's possible.
This quote summarizes it beautifully.
"The mind, once stretched by a new idea, never returns to its original dimensions." ― Ralph Waldo Emerson
